Epic Kill

After all this mucking about with superheroes and the like, I was contacted by comic creator Raffaele Ienco about drawing a pin-up for his comic book 'Epic Kill' from Image comics. As the title suggests, this ain't Emily Bronte - the female protagonist basically killing anything that moves in a variety of inventive ways.

Thanks to Raffaele for chancing his arm on a complete unkown, this picture will appear in the July issue of Epic Kill, in all good comic shops etc etc...

Alter Ego

This week I've been taking part in an exhibition of Marvel-inspired art called 'Alter-Ego' at Red Bull studios, London. I produced nine prints, in a limited edition of nine each, which are available here alongside pieces by six other artists from across the UK. My first exhibition, and a big learning curve, I think I might have lost the humour in my work somewhere along the line, but I'm still fond of the Captain America and Elektra pictures which don't take themselves too seriously.

Faux woodcuts with a mouse

I met my mate Jon yesterday who gave me a this t-shirt with a drawing on it I'd done for his band Heck Tate. I think the brief was 'something with a Unicorn in it'. I used to draw in this strange faux-woodcut style, and what's worse I used to draw with a mouse, which took aaages and knackered my wrist. This hastened both my move to using a Wacom tablet and drawing in vectors.

For my last Alter Ego picture, I was determined to do something that's pretty nuts both in colour scheme and anatomy. I feel I've lost my technique somewhere along the line doing these pictures and I've tried to address that here.

Despite looking at Norman Rockwell for reference, this has turned out as a bit of a love letter to Mick McMahon and Bill Sienkewicz with a bit of Charley Harper thrown in. And, pleasingly, it's my favourite of the lot. Now I need a bit of a lie down.
